JASPER SOMSEN TRIO
featuring Jean-Michel Pilc
Jean-Michel Pilc ‘s imaginary musical realm and sense of dynamics is full of suprises. Even more impressive is the seemingly effortless interplay with Somsen and Ceccarelli. **** TROUW (NL)
Free anticipating interplay … a creative impulse leading to a chain reaction between these three improvising musicians. JAZZTHING (DE)
Concise interplay by a very interesting trio . An intriguing trio: intelligent, well balanced and often poetic. ****1/2 JAZZISM (NL)
The musicians seem to have agreed only on one thing: surprise each other, the listener and it is constant pleasure. The result is as different as it is intriguing. **** JAZZ MAGAZINE (FR)
It’s no coincidence Jasper Somsen’s latest albums features an international piano trio line up. Recent years he collaborated frequently with the master pianists Enrico Pieranunzi, Joey Calderazzo, John Beasley and Lynne Arriale. The Jasper Somsen Trio featuring Jean-Michel Pilc (piano) and André Ceccarelli (drums) recorded two albums in two days.

LYNNE ARRIALE TRIO
Lynne Arriale’s brilliant musicianship and bandstand instincts place her among the top jazz pianists of the day. NEW YORK TIMES
She belongs among the poets. Truly distinctive, her improvisations weave a seductive combination of lyricism and muscle. LONDON TIMES
Lynne Arriale’s music lies at the synaptic intersection where brain meets heart, where body meets soul. She is one of jazzdom’s most intensely unique voices. JAZZ TIMES
The trio displays a remarkable synergy on Arriale’s originals, such as Appassionata and Another Sky. “An equal conversation between all musicians in any lineup is essential to reaching higher musical levels and deeper meanings,” Somsen said. “Having a good conversation with any musician means you have to be open-minded. With Lynne and us, this conversation has been very strong from the start.” DOWNBEAT
Recently the Lynne Arriale Trio featuring Jasper Somsen and E.J. Strickland toured succesfully in Europe. In October 2019 the trio will record their second album: “Chimes Of Freedom”(Challenge Records) before another series of concerts in the UK, Switzerland and Austria. They will be back in 2020 with a new release tour.

BOB SHEPPARD – “THE FINE LINE”
Sensitivity and suggestiveness from a studio pro. **** LONDON TIMES
With The Fine Line Sheppard has succeeded once more in producing an album populated by vibrant, memorable tunes that invite constant and frequent replays. **** ALL ABOUT JAZZ
That ingenuity pervades the album, ensuring that there’s always a little bit extra for the listener to dig into. The Fine Line is a gem of an album, and another excellent reason to remember Bob Sheppard’s name. DOWNBEAT (Editor’s Pick)
At the Jazzahead Network Event 2013 in Bremen (GER) Jasper Somsen and Bob Sheppard had a wonderful, long conversation, exchanged music and discussed possibilities of playing together. In the end, it took almost two years to be onstage playing in The Netherlands. Shortly after, Jasper got the opportunity to work on a number of audio productions as an independent producer at Challenge Records. One of those projects became this very anticipated album. John Clayton kindly offered his famous Ray Brown double bass, the one Ray played in the 1960s during his time with the Oscar Peterson Trio, for these recordings.
I believe “The Fine Line” is a beautiful statement that displays the great music and musicianship of Bob Sheppard and that of all the players involved. It demonstrates that if you strongly believe in the life of an idea, desire will find a way to turn it into a plan and in the end your dream can come true.
