Jan Gunnar Hoff - Piano
Jasper Somsen - Double Bass
Carsten Lindholm - Drums
A brand new exciting trio has seen the light: Hoff Somsen Lindholm. The trio will perform at European festivals and clubs in 2023 and 2024. Jan Gunnar Hoff (NOR), Jasper Somsen (NL) and Carsten Lindholm (DK) share their love of Nordic Jazz, mixed with strong undercurrent of both the American Jazz tradition and European classical music. Besides that they also share a positive attitude in life, which reflects in their compositions and improvisations.
The first performances of Hoff Somsen Lindholm in Bayreuth (DE) and Bastia (Corsica, FR) were sold out. The trio will continue their concert series in 2024, in amongst others Norway, Denmark and Germany. Since the three musicians are well respected composers, their repertoire is a fine blend of their (newly) composed best music for this line up.
Their debut album "Northwest" (Sept. 2024, Challenge Records) is highly acclaim in the international media.

All three musicians are equal in the musical process and contribute in the same measures with improvisations and compositions. It is all about communication – the art of listening and reacting and so forcing each other deeper into the essence of the performed tune. This new jazz trio is a welcome addition to an already rich European jazz scene and will soon find followers around the globe. After hearing their debut album, I can already say: I am a fan! It pays off when such experienced musicians join forces ... the common unified expression as well as improvisational power complement each other ... it is precisely here that the understanding between the three musicians becomes apparent.

Hoff Somsen Lindholm demonstrated the excellence of their technical and compositional qualities. The piano oscillated between water and fire, the double bass thunder and purrs and the drums balanced everything with rhythm and sounds that were sometimes fragmentary or lascivious.

Hoff Somsen Lindholm plays original compositions which are inspired by Keith Jarrett, Enrico Pieranunzi, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Esbjörn Svensson, Rymden, Russell Ferrante, Vince Mendoza and many others.
In direct contact with their audience, the music of this strong Dutch-Scandinavian trio is characterized by its communicative openness, stylistic diversity and aesthetic expressiveness, in which their lyrical compositions unfold in a flow of improvisational forces.
